Faoi thailm na bpléascán agus chnagarnach bhuan na ngunnaí móra, faighimid radharc scanrúil ar an chogadh trí shúile an fhir óig seo as Gaeltacht Chloich Chionnaola, agus é féin agus a chomhaoisigh á gcur thar an mhullach isteach sa chath, gás nimhe ag scalladh na scamhóga astu, agus an fód á dheargadh lena gcuid fola.
In ainneoin na mílte Éireannach a thit i gcogadh mór 1914-1918, is beag trácht orthu i litríocht na Gaeilge. Seo é an chéad úrscéal sa teanga a insíonn a scéal.

This story captures the living hell of the front lines, the bombardment of bursting shells and belching artillery, the water-logged trenches, the dawn raids, the deadly mustard gas, the mud and blood and grime of a senseless war.
Despite the thousands of Irish who fell in The Great War of 1914-1918, there is little mention of them in Irish language literature. This is the first novel in the Irish language to deal with the First World War.
File, scríbhneoir taistil, drámadóir agus úrscéalaí as Mín an Leá i nGort an Choirce é Cathal Ó Searcaigh. Rugadh Cathal Ó Searcaigh i gCloich Chionnaola i nGaeltacht Dhún na nGall i 1956. Ba é Miontraigéide cathrach agus dánta eile (Cló Uí Chuirrín, 1975) a chéad chnuasach aonair. Foilsíodh Súile Shuibhne in 1983 agus ceithre bliana ina dhiaidh sin foilsíodh Suibhne. Bailiúchán de dhánta ar théama neamhghnách sa Ghaeilge, an grá aerach, atá in Na Buachaillí Bána (1996), agus foilsíodh an cnuasach Caiseal na gCorr i 2002. Tá cnuasach dá dhánta ar fad bailithe faoin teideal Ag Tnúth leis an tSolas 1975-2000 (2001), cnuasach a bhuaigh duais The Irish Times don litríocht sa Ghaeilge. Ball d’Aos Dána é Cathal Ó Searcaigh.
