Lilly Higgins adds a third publication to her arsenal of popular cookery and lifestyle books with The Homemade Year, a creative handbook of seasonal crafts, projects and recipes inspired by the Irish calendar and Higgins’ own traditions. Readers are inspired to create a sustainable and happy home through an appreciation of the seasons and an imaginative, fulfilling use of everyday items, as Higgins redefines homemaking to suit a multitude of audiences in all stages of life. Tapping into current trends such as crafting, baking, slow living, eco-awareness and self-care, Higgins provides practical guides for a variety of projects that appeal to families, nature lovers, wellness advocates, DIY-ers and more. Her nostalgic anecdotes accompany valuable tips for getting the most out of readily available items, encouraging personal and Irish traditions while offering modern and sustainable ideas for contemporary homemaking. The Homemade Year contains six projects for each month of the year, including kid-friendly crafts like St. Patrick’s Day badges and natural tie dye, self-care ideas such as bath tea mix and sage bundles, and more complex activities such as paper-making and homemade kombucha.
Lilly Higgins is a TV chef, food and wine writer, and food photographer. She writes a weekly recipe column for the Irish Times and appears regularly on RTÉ television’s afternoon programme The Today Show. Lilly has a BA in Design from Cork Institute of Technology and completed the 12-week Ballymaloe Cookery Certificate. She has previously published two cookbooks with Gill Books–Make, Bake, Love and Dream Deli–and loves nothing more than working on creative projects that help make a cosy, comfortable home for herself and her family. In this, her third book (which she photographed and styled herself), Lilly shares an inspirational collection of ideas for things to make, do and enjoy in the home. She lives in Cobh with her husband and three children.
