We are thrilled to announce this year’s shortlists for the An Post Irish Book Awards 2023! This year’s shortlisted books feature a diverse and compelling mix of exceptional writing from new and established writers across 19 categories. Favourites such as The Aisling Series make a return, as do iconic and classic Irish writers such as Anne Enright, Paul Murray and Claire Keegan with The Wren, The Wren, The Bee Sting and So Late in the Day respectively. Acclaimed children’s author and illustrator duo Eoin Colfer and P.J. Lynch find a place on the shortlist with Three Tasks for a Dragon as does last year’s winner for Children’s Book of the Year (Senior), Ellen Ryan for Gods Don’t Cry. Meanwhile, up-and-coming talent Colin Walsh and rising star Michael Magee are shortlisted for the Newcomer of the Year category amongst other new writers. Narratives of class, true crime and Irish history and mythology abound, amongst countless other themes. There really is a book for everyone on this list.
